Use measurements for fit and a range for packed weight.
Do not choose clothing from the letter size alone. Compare garment measurements with a similar item you already own, then note how the measurement was taken. For parcel planning, keep the listed item weight separate from packaging uncertainty and use a low-to-high range rather than one exact-looking number.

Why size labels are weak evidence
S, M, L, EU 42, or another familiar label may help identify an option, but the label alone does not tell you the finished garment or internal shoe dimensions. Different patterns, cuts, materials, and measurement methods can place the same label on noticeably different items.
A size chart is more useful when it names the exact option, uses clear units, explains the measurement points, and matches a photographed tag or product page. A generic chart copied across many unrelated listings deserves less confidence.
Compare the product with something you already own
- Choose a reference item. Use a garment or shoe that fits in the way you want.
- Measure it the same way. Lay it flat if the chart uses garment measurements. Do not compare body circumference directly with a flat half-chest value.
- Match the measurement points. Chest, shoulder, sleeve, rise, inseam, and overall length can be taken from different places.
- Allow for the intended fit. A hoodie may need more ease than a fitted T-shirt. Fabric stretch and thickness also matter.
- Record the gap. “Candidate is 3 cm longer than my reference” is more useful than “probably fits.”

Shoe sizing needs its own check
Start with actual foot length and a well-fitting reference shoe, then inspect how the listing defines the option. Foot length, insole length, and outsole length are different measurements. A size conversion table can be useful, but it should not replace the item-specific chart.
- The chart identifies foot length or insole length clearly.
- The photographed size tag matches the selected option.
- Both shoes appear together in the photo set.
- The shape and intended sock thickness suit the use.
- You have not converted through several regional size systems without checking the original measurement.
Keep three weight layers separate
Listed item weight
A value attached to the product or option. It may be rounded, old, incomplete, or measured without retail packaging.
Estimated packed weight
Your planning range after allowing for a box, case, protective wrap, outer parcel, or bundled components.
Later measured parcel
The weight and dimensions recorded after items and packaging are combined. This is a different stage and may not match the earlier estimate.
Route calculation
A provider may consider actual weight, dimensions, route rules, or other current inputs. Confirm that stage through the relevant official service.

Build a range without pretending to know the final parcel
Begin with the best supported item weight. Add a clearly labeled allowance for the packaging you can reasonably expect. Use a wider range when the item is rigid, boxed, fragile, electronic, unusually shaped, or shown with a substantial case.
Useful planning note
“Listed item weight: 820 g for size shown. Shoe box and outer packing not confirmed. Compare as roughly 1.0–1.3 kg until measured.”
False precision
“Final shipping weight: 1,047 g.” The number looks exact but the box, outer packing, dimensions, and final option are unknown.
This is not a rate calculation. It is a way to stop a low product price from feeling final before the parcel is understood.
Weight is not the only parcel clue
Large or rigid items can occupy meaningful space even when they are not extremely heavy. Shoe boxes, structured bags, helmets, thick jackets, retail packaging, and protective cases may change the comparison. Record dimensions when they are visible and keep them beside the weight range.
Do not invent a dimensional-weight result without the destination, route, confirmed parcel dimensions, and current calculation rules. Use official tools for current service decisions.
Stop conditions for size and weight
- The chart does not identify the measurement method or units.
- The selected option cannot be connected to the chart or photographed tag.
- Body and garment measurements are mixed without explanation.
- The row gives one weight but not the size, option, or packaging state.
- A box, case, battery, or rigid shape is visible but ignored in the estimate.
- The apparent value survives only when fit and parcel uncertainty are omitted.
